What Is The Connection Between Mental Health And Spiritual Healing?

In today's popular culture, you may already have heard about "spiritual healing." Whether you have grasped the concept or not, you may not be aware of how it affects one's mental health. You may be interested in learning that not only does it affect it, a true sense of spirituality is one of the most essential factors in good mental health.

The best way to look at it is that a person's state of mental health is very much influenced by his or her degree of inner peace, sense of purpose, the degree to which he or she is connected to other people and his world, and how well he is able to fully accept himself. The contentment, purpose, connectedness, and acceptance which a spiritual person feels strongly affect his mental health.

For some people, these traits are quite natural. Whether they are inborn or learned, they are natural characteristics of their personalities. While the circumstances of life may not be any easier for such people, they are better able to withstand turmoil than those who do not possess this trait. For others, however, natural spirituality may have been disrupted at some point in their lives. Whether in childhood or in later years, bad experiences can disrupt a person's sense of inner balance. This can lead to difficulties in coping, sometimes to extremes.

Fortunately, spiritual healing offers the chance to change - to reclaim one's natural spiritual nature, and, with it, a better state of mental health and a better outlook on life. You have the ability to heal and reclaim your spiritual nature, and to get your mental health back on track - and the ability to do this is within you yourself!

You can gain a true sense of purpose in your life; and you can learn that accepting yourself is much more important and much more valid than attempting to meet other people's expectations. You can gain a deeper understanding of what you believe in, what matters the most to you, and how these wonderful factors affect those around you. When you begin to see that true contentment and inner peace cannot be given or caused by external circumstances, you will realize the joy of finding it within yourself!

The person who does not accept himself, other people, and life, is not a happy person. The concept of serenity eludes him, for he fully believes that it is something which must be found or gained from something outside himself. His state of mental health suffers, because his focus is in the wrong place. He may even spend his entire life "searching," while not knowing what it is that he is searching for. At the extreme end of the spectrum, his mental health may completely deteriorate as he puts his entire focus into attempting to change everything about himself, his life, and other people, with the belief that such drastic measures is the answer.

Spiritual healing is an essential factor in improving one's mental health. It is not about changing everything about yourself - it is about accepting yourself. When you are content with who you are, your spiritual nature will be intact and your mental health will be strong!
